DAVID GILBERT
Baby Girl
March 16 - May 15, 2017
Closing "Launch" Sunday May 7th, 4pm
Lilies, butterflies, night lights, curtains, drapery, tufts of fabric, tattered ribbons, tinsel, painted sticks, audio cables, stickers, cardboard backdrops, and postcards: David Gilbert's photographic installation is a miniature theater of aspiration and doubt, poetry and poverty, private studio fantasy and ramshackle slacker nesting. His staged photographs are weirdly enchanting hyper-real moments at once formal and childlike, full of subtle material humor and melancholy. A tender psychological profile and whole world of daydreams are evoked. In and beyond the frame, Baby Girl is a blissful shape-shifting body swap with a life only just born.
